Sylvanus Scory

I have heard Sir John Denham say that he has been well informed that he was the most accomplished gentleman of his time : it is good testimony of his worth, that Benjamin Johnson (who ever scorned an unworthy patrone) dedicated to him. I have heard Sir John Denham also say, that he was the greatest confident and intimate favourite of Monsieur de France (brother to the French King) who was a suitor to Queen Elisabeth, and whom her Majesty entirely loved ; and as a signal of it, one time at St Paul, openly kissed him in time of divine service ; and would have had him for her husband, but only for reasons of state.

died in 1617.
