It is possible that Shakespeare modelled Holoferne in Love's labour's lost on Florio, and it is certain that his translation of Montaigne's essays (which was licensed to Edward Blount in 1599, but was not published until 1603) formed the basis of Gonzago's description of an ideal state in the Tempest.
