Gundamore (ambassador of Spain) offered a good sum for them; I have forgotten what. In one of them was the picture of God the Father, like an old (as the fashion was), which much offended Mr. Shervill, the recorder, who in zeale (but without knowledge) clambered up on the pews to break the window, and fell down and broke his leg (about 1629) ; but that did not excuse him for being questioned in the Star-chamber for it.
